What changes between twenty square metres and a hundred and ninety

On a small room, a mistake is put right within the day. Over a large area it repeats identically across the whole job before anyone notices. That is why a large ceiling takes far longer to prepare than to fit.

Dividing into zones

An area of that size is not heated as a single volume. It is divided into zones supplied and controlled separately, according to orientation, glazing and the real use of each part of the space.

The fabric widths

Beyond a certain width, the fabric arrives as several welded widths. The position of the welds is decided at setting out, taking account of the raking light that would reveal them, and not when the delivery arrives.

Tensioning, a matter of teamwork

A large fabric is tensioned by several people, in a precise order and at a controlled temperature. It is the stage that most clearly separates an experienced fitter from a beginner, and it cannot be put right afterwards.

Logistics

A hundred and ninety square metres means several rolls of insulation, metres of rail and a quantity of film to distribute. Storage on site and the order of delivery become subjects of the programme in their own right.

Checking before closing up

Over a large area, checking zone by zone is the only reliable method. Each zone is measured and recorded before tensioning, because an anomaly found afterwards costs the complete removal of the fabric.

The execution is set out on the fitting technique page, and the full series on part one of the fitting.
