A meeting room has two problems, not one

Thermal comfort and speech intelligibility. A meeting room with poor acoustics tires its occupants far faster than a slightly cool one, and both subjects are settled in the same place: the ceiling.

Why reverberation is a problem

In a room with hard surfaces, each voice comes back to the listener several times with a slight delay. The brain then has to sort direct sound from reflections, which produces the tiredness typical of long meetings.

Treating both in the same plenum

The acoustic absorber and the heating element occupy the same volume above the fabric. Fitting them in one operation costs markedly less than two successive jobs, and avoids reopening a finished ceiling.

What acoustic treatment does not do

It reduces reverberation in the room, it does not stop sound crossing the partition into the corridor. Confidentiality is a matter of sound insulation between rooms, which is another subject and another item of work.

Thermal comfort in an intermittent room

A meeting room is empty most of the time and full for two hours. A system that comes up to temperature quickly avoids heating it permanently for nothing, which inertia does not allow.

The contribution of the occupants

Ten people gathered give off a thermal output that is far from negligible. Fine control, room by room, takes that into account automatically, where a fixed setting leads to opening the window halfway through the meeting.

Acoustic treatment is presented on the R'Acoustic 10 page, and the system on heated radiant stretch ceiling.
