Bass Booster finish: what can be customised

What can be changed without touching the sound

The colour, the frame, the surrounding trims. Those elements play no part in the vibration of the blade and can therefore be customised freely, which leaves real scope for fitting the object into an interior.

What is not changed

The species, the thickness and the surface state of the blade. Those three parameters define the timbre, and changing them would amount to obtaining another product under the same name.

The colour of the wood, a special case

A stain penetrates the material and slightly changes its surface behaviour. It is therefore treated as a technical operation and not a decorative one, with the same listening check as after sealing.

Why the finish counts all the same

An object that stays visible in a room is judged on its appearance before it is judged on its timbre. Refusing to deal with that point amounts to letting a good product be dismissed for a reason that is not technical at all.

The constraint of the active surface

The blade cannot be coated freely. Any added layer changes its mass and its stiffness, which limits the field of possible finishes to those that stay very thin and even.

The choice to settle at the order

The appearance is decided before manufacture, because certain operations happen during production and not afterwards. A finished object is not recustomised like a piece of furniture that gets repainted.

The principle is developed on the Magic Speaker page, and ceiling sound on the dedicated page.
