What a high speed camera makes visible

The movement of the blade. At normal speed a vibrating surface looks still, because the amplitude is small and the frequency far above what the eye can separate. At a thousand frames per second, that movement becomes observable again.

The vibration modes

A plate does not move as one block. It deforms in patterns that depend on frequency, with areas moving a great deal and others hardly at all, and it is that organisation the high speed image shows directly.

Why it is useful in design

Seeing where the blade moves most indicates where to place the exciter and where to fix the piece. A fixing point set on a very mobile area restricts the vibration, and the image gives that information with no calculation.

What the image does not measure

Sound level, spectrum and distortion. A video shows mechanical behaviour, it does not replace an acoustic measurement, and the two answer different questions.

The trap of amplitude

A slowed image exaggerates the perception of movement. The blade in fact travels very little, and a spectacular video says nothing about the energy actually radiated.

What to take from it

That the principle is mechanical and observable. That is what separates a verifiable explanation from an assertion, and it is why this kind of image has its place beside measurements.
