Three activities, one place

Heating and cooling through the ceiling, thin reflective insulation, acoustic treatment and sound. Those three trades look distant and yet occupy the same volume: the few centimetres between the original substrate and the visible facing.

Why that volume is strategic

It exists in almost every building, nobody uses it, and it gives access to the largest surface available in a room. A firm able to work there touches four subjects at once.

What that changes for a client

One operation, one firm and one ceiling opened. Treating heating, insulation and acoustics in the same operation costs markedly less than three successive jobs on the same substrate.

What that changes for an installer

An average order value that rises without the trade changing. The fitting remains that of a ceiling; it is the functions carried that multiply, and each is sold on a different argument.

The role of sales in that arrangement

Translating a need into a configuration. A client describes a discomfort, rarely a solution, and the work consists of identifying which of the four subjects is genuinely at issue before proposing anything.

The technical common ground

The air gap. Heating, insulation and acoustics all depend on how that volume is closed and organised, and that is what gives the whole its technical coherence. A firm that masters that air gap in fact masters all four services, even if it believes it is selling only one.
