Why a stretch ceiling fitter adds heating

A stretch ceiling is sold by the square metre, with a margin that depends mainly on the fabric. The same job, with a heating function built in, changes nature: it is no longer compared with another ceiling, it is compared with a heating installation.

No extra trade to learn

The fitting remains that of a stretch ceiling. What is added lies in preparing the plenum, fixing the films and connecting them, and that last point belongs to the electrician who is on site in any case.

The relationship with the other trades

The fitter comes after the drylining and often before the painter. Building in the heating removes a heating engineer's visit and a run of chases, which shortens the overall programme more than the fitter's own task does.

What the client hears

The argument that carries is not technical. It is that there will be no radiator on the walls, no air movement and no loss of living space. The rest is demonstrated on a reference job.

The point not to underestimate

Sizing. An undersized ceiling cannot be put right once the fabric is up, and it is the only genuinely costly mistake on this kind of job. It is prevented by a systematic preliminary study, small areas included.

The reference job, the central argument

A client who hesitates does not decide on a data sheet, they decide by walking into a room that has one. The firms that sell the most heating ceilings are those that have fitted one in their own office or showroom, and receive people there.
