What changes from one generation to the next

Rarely the principle. A range evolves through mechanics, control electronics and manufacturing, while the acoustic mechanism, a wooden blade set vibrating, remains that of the first unit.

Mechanics

That is where most of the evolution is concentrated. The way the blade is fixed, the quality of the contact and the repeatability of the tightening improve from one batch to the next, and those are the points that make a production consistent.

Electronics

Amplification, connectivity and control evolve at the pace of the market. They are the functions most visible to the user and the least decisive for the timbre, which depends on the blade and its coupling.

Manufacturing

A product founded on a natural material improves above all through consistency. Better sorting, drying and checking reduces the difference between two units, and that is progress which shows on no data sheet.

What does not change

The poplar, the sanding to grain three thousand, the sealing and the principle of omnidirectional radiation. Those four elements define the product, and changing them would make it another one.

How to read a new version

By looking for what has changed rather than what is announced. A useful evolution is described in one precise technical sentence, and the absence of that sentence says as much as its presence.
