What is decided before arriving on site

The fixing point, the cable route and the location of the amplification. Those three decisions are taken with the ceiling drawing, because none of them can be put right once the facing is closed.

The fixing point

It determines the coverage. An omnidirectional source gives its best result at the centre of the area to cover, clear of bulkheads and beams, and that position is surveyed on site rather than deduced from a drawing.

The cable route

It is planned with the other services in the plenum. A conduit laid at the same time as the electrics costs a few euros; the same conduit added after the facing is up costs a strip out.

The location of the amplification

It needs ventilation and access. Placing it in a closed cabinet or in a plenum with no clearance shortens its life, and that point is dealt with at the same moment as the rest.

Coordination with the other trades

The electrician, the dryliner and the fitter all work on the same ceiling. A ten minute meeting before the start avoids rework, and it is the only way to get a ceiling carrying several functions with no compromise.

The check before closing up

Listen before closing. It is the last moment when a fixing defect or a parasitic vibration can be corrected without taking the facing down, and it takes only a few minutes. A voice is enough to spot a noise that should not be there, and nobody thinks of doing it once the day is over.
