R'BULL put to the fire

How to read a fire test video, ours included

Every insulation manufacturer publishes flame videos, and they look much alike. A few habits are enough to separate an honest demonstration from a staged one.

Watch the distance and the duration

A flame held twenty centimetres from the material proves nothing. A flame in contact, held for several tens of seconds, proves something. The shot also has to stay wide enough and long enough for the whole width to be visible, not only the heated spot.

Watch what happens afterwards, above all

The decisive moment is not during, it is after. A cut in the edit exactly as the flame is withdrawn is the most reliable sign that something is not being shown. That is why our tests are filmed in one take.

And check the classification, which alone counts

A video shows a behaviour, it does not replace a standardised test on calibrated samples. R'BULL Pro 13 is classified B-s1,d0 under EN 13501-1, established in a laboratory. That is the document an inspection body will ask for, not the footage. The permitted installation configurations by building type are set out on our fire regulations page, and the product on its data sheet.

A word on the tests we do not publish

We do not publish comparative tests in which a competing product is identified by name. That is not commercial caution, it is that the comparison would not be fair: we would be choosing the sample, the duration and the framing. Named comparisons belong to an independent laboratory, not to a manufacturer's workshop, ours included.
