A thermal camera does not measure how well an insulation performs. It measures the temperature of the surface it is pointed at. Everything therefore depends on how the test is set up: one heat source, samples of the same area, the same distance to the lens and the same moment of reading for all of them. That is what makes the comparison honest, and it is what this longer version sets out.
Working from a phone, on site? The vertical version of this test goes straight to the result, without the method.
For this video we built a test bench to compare the thermal behaviour of the thin insulation range.
An infrared heated table gives a single, steady source, which is what allows the samples to be judged against one another rather than in isolation.
It reproduces conditions close enough to a real installation for the reading to mean something.
The test covers a selection of Ceilingo thin insulation:R'BULL Pro 13, the reference of the range against radiant heat,R'Flam Pro 6,R'BULL Pro 5, the entry point, and the R'Acoustic series (Alu, 10 and 20), which works on sound as well as heat.
An air gap is built into the assembly, because a reflective insulation only performs where there is one. Without it the measurement would say nothing about how the product behaves on a real ceiling.
Set up this way, the comparison between the references holds, and it gives you something to decide with rather than a claim to take on trust.
Watch the whole test to see how the gap between the samples opens up, and which product suits the job you have in front of you.
