The stage nobody will ever see again

Once the fabric is tensioned, everything behind it becomes inaccessible. The pictures of this stage therefore have a particular value: they are the only visual record of what was actually fitted above the finished ceiling.

Fixing the heating elements

They are held flat, with no fold and no overlap, at a constant distance from the back face of the facing. An element folded on itself creates a hot spot, and that is precisely what the visual check at this stage removes.

Connection

Each zone is linked to its supply with demountable, labelled connections. That labelling serves any later fault finding, ten or twenty years on, when nobody remembers the original setting out.

Tests before closing up

Resistances are measured and the rise in temperature is checked zone by zone. It is the last moment when an anomaly can be corrected without taking the fabric down, and therefore the last moment when it costs little.

The file handed to the client

Zone drawing, photographs before closing up, equipment references. That file has no value on handover day and considerable value on the day a tradesperson has to work on it without knowing the job.

The rhythm of the job

This stage is the longest in labour hours and the shortest in visible result. It is also the one where a well prepared job stands clearly apart from an improvised one.

The start of the job is told on the previous page, and the result on the finished ceiling page.
