Installing a heated ceiling in a toilet

Fitting in a two square metre volume

The difficulty is not technical, it is geometric. There is no room to manoeuvre a panel, the door opens inwards, and there is often only one angle to work from. The layout therefore has to take account of the order in which a fitter can physically reach each point.

A single element, or nearly

In such a small volume one or two heating elements are enough, which simplifies the wiring but excuses no check. A single circuit badly connected means the whole room does not heat, with no backup zone.

The supply

That is the point most often overlooked. A separate toilet frequently has no electrical supply at all beyond the lighting. It therefore has to be decided in advance whether to take off the lighting circuit or to run a dedicated supply from the board.

The question of height

Five centimetres in a two square metre room are noticed less than in a living room, because there is no point of comparison inside the room. The junction with the adjoining corridor, on the other hand, is visible: that finishing detail is the one that needs attention.

Control

A dedicated thermostat in a toilet makes little sense. The room is generally attached to the circuit of a neighbouring one, with a low setpoint and a programmed boost, which avoids adding a device to an already scarce wall.

The principle and the choice of room are developed on the page about heating a toilet, and the system on the Ceilingo radiant plaster ceiling page.
