Five millimetres, and so what?

R'BULL Pro 5 is the thinnest reference in the range. That thickness is not chosen to save money but because nothing else will fit: a five millimetre allowance behind a joinery detail, under a floating floor, or within the depth of a roller shutter box.

What five millimetres do

The reflective faces work independently of thickness: they are a surface condition, not a volume. The product therefore sends radiation back like its larger relatives, provided it has an air gap. What it does not do is resist conduction, for want of material.

What five millimetres do not do

They do not replace insulation that has been sized properly. Used alone on an external wall, the result will be disappointing, and rightly so. We prefer to say it before the order: this product is a complement, and in that role it is excellent.

Where it is the right choice

As a second layer over existing insulation, to add a reflective function. As an underlay beneath a floor covering, to cut the cold rising from a crawl space. And at all the awkward points where the depth available rules out anything else: window reveals, shutter boxes, corner returns.

The price question, since it comes up

A thinner reference costs less per square metre, which makes it tempting on a tight budget. That is a poor reason to choose it. On an ordinary surface where the depth is available, R'BULL Pro 13 does a job that five millimetres will not do, and the price difference comes back on the heating bill.
